Udaan Scheme Gains Momentum: Six New Airports to Be Constructed in Bihar
Koshi Zone, Saharsa – Under the ambitious Udaan scheme by the Government of India, six new airports are set to be constructed in Bihar to provide air travel facilities to the general public. These airports will be built in Saharsa, Supaul, Munger, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, and Valmikinagar.
As part of this initiative, a team from the Airports Authority of India visited the Saharsa airport site on Saturday to conduct an inspection. The team included DGM S.N. Thakur, S.M. Kamal, Operations In-charge Sunil Kumar, Architect Sarvoch Kumar, and ATM Praveen Unnikrishnan. Officials stated that the inspection report will be submitted to higher authorities within 15 days.
During the inspection, the team expressed concern over a tall building—belonging to the court—located on the eastern side of the airport premises, citing it as an obstruction to free visibility. The team emphasized the need for its removal.
On this occasion, Additional District Magistrate Nishant Kumar informed that the land acquisition process for the airport expansion has been completed. He assured that not only will alternative land be provided to the affected landowners, but fair compensation will also be given for trees and structures present on the acquired land.
This government initiative is expected to significantly improve connectivity in these regions of Bihar and accelerate economic development.
