Police Crackdown on Fake Currency Racket, Accused Arrested by Bangaon Police
Fake notes worth ₹2,800, ATM cards, and multiple documents recovered from a suspicious car; police probing wider network
Koshi Zone: Acting swiftly on a tip-off, Bangaon Police in the district arrested an accused involved in circulating fake currency. The Action
took place during routine daytime patrolling, when the police received information that Shoaib Akhtar, a resident of Rahuamani, had brought counterfeit notes from outside and was planning to circulate them in Saharsa and nearby markets.
After verifying the input, the police team informed senior officials and initiated surveillance near the State Bank of India at Bariyahi Chowk market. During this operation, a suspicious white Maruti Suzuki Alto car was spotted approaching the area. When signaled to stop, the driver attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended due to the alertness of the police team.
Upon interrogation, the accused identified himself as Shoaib Akhtar, son of Shaleem, resident of Rahuamani Ward No. 04 under Bangaon Police Station, Saharsa district. A thorough search led to the recovery of fake currency worth ₹2,800, including five ₹500 notes, one ₹200 note, and one ₹100 note.
In addition, police seized 8 ATM cards, Aadhaar card, PAN card, two driving licenses, voter ID card, e-Shram card, cheque books of different banks, two mobile phones, ₹4,100 in cash, and the car used in the operation. All recovered items have been formally seized and documented. A case has been registered at Bangaon Police Station (Case No. 62/26) under Sections 179/180 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Assistant Station House Officer Harishchandra Thakur, along with Sub-Inspectors Amresh Kumar, Tanuja Kumari, and other police personnel.
Police are now actively investigating the आरोपी’s network and the source of the counterfeit currency.
