Two Saharsa Players Selected for National U-17 Cricket Championship


Koshi zone : Two promising young cricketers training at Koshi Sports Academy have brought pride to the district by earning selection in the Navodaya School team for the National Under-17 Cricket Championship. The tournament is scheduled to be held from May 26 to May 31, 2026, in Mahbubnagar, Telangana.

The selected players are Shashwat Kumar Sachin, son of block chief Sindhu Kumari and Sanjay Kumar Yadav, and Krish Kumar, son of Archana Devi and Dashrath Chaudhary. Both players are residents of Saharsa and students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

For the past three years, Shashwat and Krish have been undergoing rigorous cricket training at Koshi Sports Academy. Their consistent performance and dedication have paid off, as they secured their place in the national-level competition through a selection process involving matches and trials among Navodaya Vidyalaya teams from across the country.

Coach Roshan Singh Dhoni, who has served multiple times as coach of the Bihar Junior Cricket Team, expressed pride in their achievement. He stated that these two players are the 37th and 38th athletes from Koshi Sports Academy to be selected for national-level competitions.

The contribution of junior coaches Kunal Chaudhary, Rahul Kshatriya, and Pankaj Thakur has been instrumental in shaping the careers of these players. Their continuous efforts have helped many young talents emerge at the national stage.

Celebrations erupted at the residence of Shashwat Kumar Sachin in Satar Kataiya, as well as among players of the academy, following the announcement of the selection.

On this occasion, Academy President Arjun Chaudhary highlighted that under the guidance of coach Roshan Singh Dhoni, a strong sports culture has developed in Saharsa. Regular training is now being conducted in various sports including cricket, athletics, volleyball, handball, football, kho-kho, and hockey. He added that sports not only provide career opportunities but also help youth stay away from addiction, and the academy remains committed to promoting sports as a tool against substance abuse.

Several sports officials and dignitaries, including Brahmdev Kamat, Masood Alam, Rajesh Singh, Gulniyaz Rabbani, Chandrashekhar Adhikari, Amit Thakur, Vivek Vishal, R K Singh, Diwakar Singh, Chandradev Mukhiya, Syed Shami Ahmad, Nitish Mishra, Ashish Singh, Chandan Kumar, Darshan Kumar Guddu, Biplab Ranjan, and Shivendra Narayan Singh congratulated the players and extended their best wishes.

They also appreciated the efforts of the academy and its coaches, encouraging them to continue nurturing talent and bringing more players from Saharsa to the national stage.
